Hedge Fund CIO: “Such Drama Should Remind Us To Do Those Things We Find Least Comfortable”

Hedge Fund CIO: “Such Drama Should Remind Us To Do Those Things We Find Least Comfortable”

By Eric Peters, CIO of One River Asset Management

US District Judge Analisa Torres granted summary judgment to Ripple on claims by the Securities and Exchange Commission that it sold unregistered securities through sales to retail investors on digital asset exchanges.

Torres reasoned that such investors did not know that Ripple was on the other side of the trade, so they could not have known or expected that Ripple would use the money to boost the value of its token (XRP).

It was phenomenal news for Ripple, many other tokens, and for digital asset exchanges. The judge, however, also ruled that sales of XRP to institutional investors were unregistered securities.

This second ruling was not in Ripple’s favor, but it had no bearing on digital asset exchanges. So, for Ripple, the news was mixed, but XRP nevertheless rocketed 75%.

There is no greater gravitational force in financial markets than uncertainty, and after a 3yr legal battle with the SEC, it had largely lifted.

Coinbase shares surged 25%, its largest one-day gain as a public company. Judge Torres’s ruling weakened the SEC’s case against Coinbase in dramatic fashion.

Like all things in crypto, the moves are big, the cycles compressed. With no buyer of last resort, no central bank to bail you out, hostile regulators, frightened incumbent banks, and politicians with agendas that are difficult to comprehend, crypto markets are where the rawest lessons in investing can be learnt.

On Nov 9th last year when Binance withdrew its bid to acquire FTX, Sequoia wrote down its $210mm investment to $0, and the SEC/DOJ opened investigations, the NYT ran this headline: “Is this Crypto’s Lehman Moment?”

Markets plunged. Bitcoin fell to around $15,800. Ethereum hit $1,100. They’re now up 92% and 76% respectively.

And on June 6th when the SEC sued Coinbase, its stock traded around $40 pre-market. It is up 133% from those lows and +200% from the Nov 9th panic lows.

Such drama should remind us to do those things we find least comfortable. To lean against the crowd, its panic. To reflect on our own emotions so that we can deny them. In the pursuit of profit.

CDC Used Journal To Promote Masks Despite ‘Unreliable’ And ‘Unsupported Data’: New Analysis

CDC Used Journal To Promote Masks Despite ‘Unreliable’ And ‘Unsupported Data’: New Analysis

Authored by Megan Redshaw, J.D. via The Epoch Times (emphasis ours),

A new analysis of studies in the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) flagship scientific journal found the agency promoted the effectiveness of masks using unreliable data with conclusions unsupported by evidence.

(Tami Chappell via Reuters)

The preprint, published July 11 on MedRxiv, found the CDC’s Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR) made positive findings about the efficacy of masks 75 percent of the time, despite only 30 percent of studies testing masks, and less than 15 percent having “statistically significant results.”

No studies were randomized, yet the CDC in over half of their MMWR studies, made misleading statements indicating a causal relationship between mask-wearing and a decrease in COVID-19 cases or transmission, despite failing to show evidence of mask effectiveness.

The inappropriate use of causal language in MMWR studies was directly adopted by then CDC director Dr. Rochelle Walensky to promote masks and recommendations urging Americans to mask up. The authors said their findings “raise concern about the reliability of the journal for informing health policy” and suggest bias within the journal.

The MMWR, often called “the voice of the CDC,” is the agency’s primary vehicle for “scientific publication of timely, reliable, authoritative, accurate, objective, and useful public health information and recommendations.”

The publication—subject only to peer review internally by the agency—is frequently used to draft national health policies. For example, mask requirements implemented during the COVID-19 pandemic for federal workers, travelers, schools, businesses, healthcare workers, and Head Start programs—“mirrored” CDC recommendations.

Of the 77 reviews cited in the agency’s MMWR used to promote masks, researchers found the following:

  • Only 23 of 77 studies assessed the effectiveness of masks, yet 58 of 77 studies claimed masks were effective.
  • Of the 58 studies, 41 used “causal language,” and 40 misused causal language. Causal language is where an “action or entity is explicitly presented as influencing another” and should not be used in observational studies because these types of studies merely identify “associations” and cannot establish that the “associations identified represent cause-and-effect relationships.”
  • According to the analysis, the 40 studies that used causal language indicated with certainty that masks lower transmission rates, despite the fact their results, at most, found a correlation. In addition, 25 of the 40 studies didn’t even assess the effectiveness of masks. The one remaining study used causal language related to particle filtration on mannequins with “unknown relevance for human health.”
  • Of the 58 studies referenced above, only one mentioned conflicting data on mask effectiveness—the authors noted it was an international study primarily focused on influenza.
  • Four of the 77 studies had more cases in the mask group than in the comparator group, yet all four studies concluded masks were effective.

None of the 77 studies assessed after 2019 were randomized, and none cited randomized data.

Randomized studies are the “gold standard” for determining whether an intervention or treatment is effective. Instead, the CDC most commonly used observational studies without controls or comparison groups.

“Shocking Number”: Rivian Owner Sees $42,000 Repair Bill For Minor Accident

“Shocking Number”: Rivian Owner Sees $42,000 Repair Bill For Minor Accident

We’ve explained to readers that auto insurers are inflating premiums for their customers due to the skyrocketing costs associated with vehicle repairs. Some insurers are opting to write off electric vehicles even for minor incidents, as it’s uneconomical to fix these complex systems. For those insurers who do undertake the repairs on EVs, the expenses are shockingly high.

The latest example of insurers getting roasted on repairs is a report from The New York Times that says a Rivian owner said his R1T electric pickup truck was involved in a minor fender bender in February in Columbus, Ohio. The insurance company of the driver who struck Chris Apfelstadt’s R1T offered to pay about $1,600 for the repairs.

However, after the R1T was taken to a certified repair shop in Columbus, the costs soared to a whopping $42,000 — or about half of the starting price of the EV.

“A key reason is that the accident damaged a sleek panel that extends from the truck’s rear to front roof pillars. Repairing and repainting it set off a cascade of pricey work, including removing the interior ceiling material, known as the headliner, and front windshield,” NYT wrote.

Perhaps the high costs were also associated with “Rivian’s small size and youth”… and “like other auto start-ups, the company, which is based in Irvine, Calif., and delivered its first vehicles to customers in 2021, does not sell through franchised dealers and has had to build an independent repair network from scratch,” the paper continued.

Auto experts have said repairing EVs is more expensive than fixing gasoline vehicles. We penned a note in March titled Not ESG-Friendly: Insurers Junk Entire EVs For Minor Accidents. It only takes one minor accident to damage a battery pack, and if that occurs, it must be replaced at the cost of tens of thousands of dollars.

At the same time, auto insurance rates are soaring as the cost of fixing not just EVs but all vehicles has led to significant losses for big insurance companies over the last few years. America’s largest insurer, State Farm, lost 28 cents for every premium written in 2022. It posted a $13 billion underwriting loss for its auto arm.

If you’ve visited a vintage car show this summer, you’ve likely overheard chatter like, “I wish they still made cars like these.” We agree that incorporating technology into cars is beneficial, but the expense of maintenance and repair in the event of any malfunction or minor fender bender is astronomical. Decades ago, when vehicles had no microchips, anyone with the right tools and common sense could repair these simple machines and even change the oil. It’s becoming clear that complex automobiles have their downfalls.

Russia, Iran Coordinating To Expel US Troops From Syria, Pentagon Says

Russia, Iran Coordinating To Expel US Troops From Syria, Pentagon Says

Via The Cradle,

In a report released by Al-Monitor on Friday, a high-ranking US military official was quoted as saying that Russian and Iranian forces in Syria have been coordinating with the specific aim of forcing Washington’s troops to eventually withdraw from the country.

The official said that “he’s seen signs that Russian military commanders in Syria have been quietly coordinating with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on long-term plans to pressure the United States to withdraw its forces” from Syria, Al-Monitor wrote.

Getty Images

“There’s a confluence of interests between those three groups, the Iranians, the Russians, and the Syrians. I see evidence of operational-level planning between mid-level Quds Force leadership that’s operating in Syria [and] Russian forces that are operating in Syria,” the anonymous official told the outlet.

According to the official, the Russian-Iranian coordination in Syria centers around “collaborative planning, collaborative understanding, and intelligence sharing… [at the] mid-level to upper echelon” of Moscow and Tehran’s armies.

“Frankly, [it’s] the same sorts of things that we would do with our partners in the face of something we were trying to accomplish. We see them doing that on their side, as they try to think about how they sync the different things that different arms of them are doing in order to put that pressure on us,” the source added.

In recent months, Washington has continued to reinforce its occupation in Syria, particularly in the country’s oil-rich northeast. In occupied Hasakah, local sources told Syrian news agency SANA last week that large deliveries of US logistical equipment and cement recently made their way into the region.

Such reinforcements have been ongoing for months, particularly in the aftermath of the surge in Iranian-linked attacks against US bases in Syria this year.  According to Al-Monitor, “Pentagon officials deny their forces’ actions in Syria have had anything to do with Russian and Iranian provocations,” adding that the US believes its recent responses “have arrested the escalation cycle for now.”

Over the past two years, attacks on US bases by Iran-linked groups in Syria have become commonplace. In early 2023 particularly, US military sites across Syria witnessed significantly increased levels of drone and missile attacks.

In March, one such strike resulted in the killing of a US military contractor at a base in Hasakah. In response, US forces bombed Deir Ezzor, killing several, including Syrian and, allegedly, Iranian military officers. Shortly after the US strikes, two more occupation bases were attacked. The attacks against Washington have “fallen silent” since the strikes on Deir Ezzor, Al-Monitor suggests

US Army General Douglas Sims told reporters recently: “We don’t anticipate an issue, nor do we see a level of escalation we’re concerned about in Syria.” Nonetheless, the Al-Monitor report states US forces in Syria remain “vulnerable.”

Last month, a leaked Pentagon document revealed that Russia and Iran have agreed to establish a joint operations room in Syria to coordinate a pressure campaign against the US military.

On March 25, Lebanese newspaper Al-Akhbar reported that “there is undeclared Russian-Iranian coordination to escalate against the US presence in Syria, to pressure the US and force it to decide to withdraw from its bases in the north and east of the country.”

How The ‘Great Society’ Destroyed The Nuclear Family Structure In One Chart

How The ‘Great Society’ Destroyed The Nuclear Family Structure In One Chart

Who destroyed the American family?

The argument can be made that the Great Society programs initiated the destruction of the nuclear family structure. The blame starts with President Lyndon B. Johnson’s set of domestic programs in the mid-1960s that were used to fight ‘poverty’ but only discouraged work and destabilized families.

Six long decades of socialist welfare programs have aided in the break up of the nuclear family structure. In fact, a central tenet of Marxism is to dismantle this structure.

Remember, the Black Lives Matter organization and Marxism share similar goals. BLM stated in 2020 it wanted to abolish the family as we know it:

We disrupt the Western-prescribed nuclear family structure requirement by supporting each other as extended families and “villages” that collectively care for one another, especially our children, to the degree that mothers, parents, and children are comfortable.

So clearly, there’s been a half-century war on the nuclear family. The latest US Census data shows that a record number of Americans live alone.

Census data shows 27.6% of all US-occupied households were one-person households in 2020, up from just 7.7% in 1940. The largest share of people living alone occurred between 1970 and 1980, when the percentage increased from 17.6% to 22.7%, right after the welfare programs started.

So what’s the result of progressives tearing down the nuclear family structure? Well, Just The News recently noted:

First, the US has the highest rate of single-parent households in the world. Second, the connection between single-parent households and crime is very strong. According to research carried out by Jerrod Brown, a behavioral specialist at Concordia St. Paul, the extant literature “suggests that children raised in single-parent households experience more physical and psychological problems compared to those raised in two-parent households.” Moreover, he added, the “implications of homes in which fathers are absent may be important to explore for criminal justice and mental health professionals.”

Maybe this whole Great Society experiment has gone terribly wrong. Let’s try something different. Maybe bring back the family unit and dial back welfare programs.

US “Debasing” Itself In Sending Ukraine Cluster Bombs Out Of “Desperation”, Musk Points Out

US “Debasing” Itself In Sending Ukraine Cluster Bombs Out Of “Desperation”, Musk Points Out

In a Saturday comment on Twitter, Elon Musk said that the United States is “debasing” itself in sending internationally banned cluster munitions to Ukraine, which is an act done out of “desperation”.

He began by responding to a post by hawkish GOP Senator Tom Cottonwho advocates for sending more and more arms to Ukrainefollowing Biden having recently approved controversial cluster bombs. Musk wrote: “Sending more weapons will change the body count, but not the outcome.”

Musk is warning of a scenario of bloody escalation without end, in which Ukrainian civilians are likely to suffer most, but with no ultimate strategic gains by Ukrainian forces or even furthering Western aims. “Russia has at least 4 times the artillery of Ukraine and 10 times the ammunition,” Musk said, pointing out additional inconvenient truths as follows: “We have run out of normal ammunition to send Ukraine, so now send them cluster bombs in desperation, debasing ourselves with no change to the outcome.”

Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin in a new interview published Sunday strongly suggested that there will indeed be significant escalation and that he’s ready to unleash Russia’s own cluster arsenal on the battlefield.  He specifically addressed the United States injecting its cluster bombs into the Ukraine war on the side of Kiev.

Putin said it is a “crime” for which Russian forces will respond with “reciprocal action” as his country has a “sufficient stockpile” of cluster munitions.

“Until now, we have not done this, we have not used it, and we have not had such a need,” Putin claimed, despite the West having long charged Moscow with already having previously deployed the internationally banned weapon on the battlefield.

Getty Images

Neither the US, Russia, nor Ukraine has signed on to international treaties banning the use of cluster bombs, held by over 120 countries due to their being an ‘indiscriminate’ munition which more easily harms civilians.

“Russia has a sufficient stock of various types of cluster munitions… We have not needed to [use them], despite the well-known [munitions] deficit for a certain period of time,” Putin said. “The US administration itself gave an assessment of these munitions through the mouths of its employees some time ago… calling the use [of these munitions] a crime. This is how I think it should be regarded,” he asserted in the interview.

Indeed the Biden administration previously said cluster bombs in particular are indicative of potential war crimes

International human rights and monitoring organizations have said that cluster munitions have been used by both sides of the conflict thus far.

Days ago, there were widespread reports that US cluster bomb supplies had already reached Ukrainian forces. The Pentagon has an abundance in its own stockpiles, which go back decades, as more conventional artillery supplies among the West has run low and fallen woefully short.

And now, the head of the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) has offered a blunt assessment calling the war a “stalemate” – suggesting that he likely agrees with Musk’s conclusion, namely that “Sending more weapons will change the body count, but not the outcome.”

“Dangerous Rhetoric”: Hunter Biden Lawyers Tell Trump Cease And Desist Social Media Attacks

“Dangerous Rhetoric”: Hunter Biden Lawyers Tell Trump Cease And Desist Social Media Attacks

Authored by Catherine Yang via The Epoch Times (emphasis ours),

Hunter Biden’s lawyers have issued a cease and desist to Donald Trump’s legal team, demanding he not post about Mr. Biden anymore for fear of “physical and violent action” on the part of Mr. Trump’s followers against Mr. Biden or his family.

“I am a little surprised to have to send this because it would seem that Mr. Trump is currently facing enough legal problems that he would not want to create any more liability for saying and doing things that could result in harm and injury, and because it appears you have enough to do in defending your client in various arenas now and yet to come than to have to deal with one more legal issue and case,” wrote attorney Abbe David Lowell, who represents Mr. Biden. The letter, sent Thursday, was first obtained by ABC News.

(L) Hunter Biden at a state dinner at the White House on June 22, 2023. (Anna Moneymaker/Getty Images) / Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump in Philadelphia, Pa., on June 30, 2023. (Michael M. Santiago/Getty Images)

Mr. Lowell wrote that Mr. Trump’s followers are “easy-to-trigger” and citing Jan. 6, 2021, events and their “tragic, even fatal, consequences” as a reason why something that would normally be a figure of speech cannot be considered so in Mr. Trump’s case.

We have seen that what might pass as such a phrase when uttered by rationale people is heard by too many in this country as some terrible injustice for which they must take physical and violent action,” Mr. Lowell wrote.

He compared Mr. Biden’s situation with that of Paul Pelosi, husband of former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who was attacked in his home last October. Federal officials alleged the attacker, David DePape, was a Canadian citizen who was in the country illegally after overstaying his visa and said he wanted to kidnap the Speaker.

Mr. Biden was also on that attacker’s hit list,” Mr. Lowell wrote. “This is not a false alarm.”

He did not link the attacker to Mr. Trump’s social media activity, but referenced another case where Taylor Taranto was arrested in the vicinity of former President Barack Obama’s residence after reposting a post of Mr. Trump’s, which contained what he claimed was Mr. Obama’s address.

“We are just one such social media message away from another incident, and you should make clear to Mr. Trump—if you have not done so already—that Mr. Trump’s words have caused harm in the past and threaten to do so again if he does not stop,” Mr. Lowell said.

Mr. Trump has invoked my client’s name on his social media accounts to harass and incite his followers on a near daily basis since Mr. Trump himself was indicted (e.g., mentioning my client more than 20 times in posts in July alone),” he wrote.

Texts to China

Mr. Lowell cited multiple times when Mr. Trump posted about or reposted and commented on news events that involved the Biden family.

On June 22, two days after Mr. Biden pleaded guilty to federal crimes, the House Ways and Means Committee unveiled the testimonies of two whistleblowers from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) who had been part of the investigation into Mr. Biden’s taxes.

The investigators had validated text messages Mr. Biden sent to a Chinese business partner demanding payment and threatening to use his father’s power and influence in retaliation.

“I am sitting here with my father and we would like to understand why the commitment made has not been fulfilled,” the younger Biden wrote, according to Shapley’s testimony.

Now means tonight,” Biden said, warning that if anyone other than Zhao, “Zhang, or the chairman” tried to reach out about the matter, “I will make certain that between the man sitting next to me and every person he knows and my ability to forever hold a grudge that you will regret not following my direction.

On June 24, Mr. Trump took to Truth Social to post: “When Hunter Biden harshly threatened the Chinese businessman, he and his father, Joe, were together in Joe’s house (even the ownership of the house, and rent paid, are questionable and now forgotten about by the Fake News Media!) where classified documents having to do with CHINA were stored . . . They took in millions of dollars from China – How much information was given. BIG STUFF! Joe is totally corrupt!!!”

Two days later Mr. Trump reposted “AMERICAN JUSTICE: 69-Year-Old Grandma with Cancer Given More Prison Time for Walking Inside US Capitol than Hunter Biden for Sharing Classified Documents with Foreign Regimes and Multi-Million Dollar Bribery Scheme” with the comment “HORRIBLE!” and commented on the news of the U.S. Secret Service discovering cocaine in the White House, writing it “was for use by Hunter, & probably Crooked Joe, in order to give this total disaster of a President a little life and energy!”

Mr. Lowell wrote that Mr. Trump multiple times misled followers and was “writing to demand a stop to this.”

“You know, if Mr. Trump does not, that Mr. Biden has neither committed nor been accused of the charges that your client is claiming (e.g., mishandling or even having access to classified information) and that the Biden family was not at the White House (let alone in the vestibule) in the period when the cocaine was found,” he wrote. “And, let’s be clear: it was Mr. Trump, not Mr. Biden, who allegedly illegally shared classified documents with others and it is Mr. Trump who is accused of paying hush money (e.g., a bribe) to prevent publicity about his personal actions.”

WaPo’s Jennifer Rubin Self-Immolates With False ‘MAGA Migration’ Propaganda

WaPo’s Jennifer Rubin Self-Immolates With False ‘MAGA Migration’ Propaganda

It’s common, mainstream, ‘not just on ZeroHedge’ knowledge that a massive flood of Americans have moved to Florida over the past several years, while states such as California and New York have lost far more residents than they’ve gained.

Apparently the Washington Post‘s Jennifer Rubin doesn’t read the news, nor do her editors.

Several days after Business Insider admitted they accidentally flipped Florida’s net migration data in a botched report that showed more people leaving the state than moving there, Rubin cited their erroneous, corrected story, for a partisan attack on Republicans.

“DeSantis likes to brag that more people are moving to Florida than ever. Not so fast. ‘An estimated 674,740 people reported that their permanent address changed from Florida to another state in 2021,” she originally wrote, adding “That’s more than any other state, including New York or California, the two states that have received the most attention for outbound migration during the pandemic,’ according to the American Community Survey released in June tracking state-by-state migration.”

Wrong!

After she was swiftly fact-checked by Twitter’s Community Notes feature (in a still-live Tweet), WaPo issued a lame retraction – suggesting Rubin had merely ‘mischaracterized’ the data.

Here’s how it went down:

It hasn’t been a great week for the wokes.

Stunning Video Shows How American Education Has Become A Leftist Cult

Stunning Video Shows How American Education Has Become A Leftist Cult

Authored by Andrea Widburg via American Thinker,

Going back to America’s founding, teaching was a job meant to create a literate population that embraced American values. Starting around the 1960s, it became a “profession,” which had more cachet. Now, though, it’s a cult, and every one of us should be absolutely terrified of the maniacs who have complete control over our children for eight hours a day, five days a week, seven months a year.

The National Education Association is the largest teacher’s union in the world and the largest trade union in the United States, representing 3 million American teachers. It’s also one of the Democrat party’s most devoted donors.

It recently held its annual conference, an event at which “approximately 6,000 educators meet to debate the vital issues that impact American public education and set National Education Association policy and activities for the year ahead.” At this year’s meeting, Becky Pringle, the NEA’s president, stood up to speak.

Image: Becky Pringle. Twitter screen grab.

In 2021, the New York Times gave Pringle a glowing profile. The article is illuminating when it comes to showing the NEA’s centrality to the Democrat party and how it embraces hard-left social justice policies. Most fascinating, though, is what the Times has to say about Pringle, a leftist among leftists:

What motivates Ms. Pringle, she said, is a longtime need that is ever more pressing now: to “reclaim public education as a common good, and transform it into something it was never designed to be: racially and socially just, and equitable.

[snip]

Ms. Pringle is seeking to position her union at the forefront of the social justice movement — a tall order, some believe, for an organization whose membership is more than 70 percent white, with a large number of members living in purple and red states. Her success, she believes, is tied to having Mr. Biden as a partner.

[snip]

This year, the N.E.A. published its Racial Justice in Education Resource Guide, which advises teachers on how to directly address issues such as white supremacy, implicit bias and acknowledging how race influences their work.

[snip]

[U]nder her tenure, the union has seen progress. There has been a sharp increase in the number of members seeking “micro-credentials” for racial justice, diversity and implicit bias training, so that teachers can better understand the student population they serve. (Emphasis added.)

You get the picture. For Pringle, there is only one filter through which to view education, and that is race and, especially, the fact that America is a fundamentally racist nation. Education is no longer about reading, writing, and arithmetic, with a little civics thrown in for good measure; it’s about instructing students to hate America, blacks to hate whites, and whites to hate themselves.

Pringle’s NEA keynote address is a staggering piece of leftism. She hits every leftist “social justice” point: Racism, homophobia, misogyny, xenophobia, social justice, transgender, reproductive rights, student loans, bad Supreme Court, good Justices Sotomayor and Brown Jackson, inequity, gun violence, indigenous people, Latino, API, “our democracy,” taxes on the wealthy, destroying school vouchers, free meals, banned books, etc. She also attacks America’s very foundation:

We will unite…this entire nation to reclaim public education as a common good, as a foundation of this country, and then we will transform it into something it was never designed to be: A racially and socially just and equitable system…

By the end of the speech, she’s worked herself into what Paul Rossi terms a “Hitlerian” frenzy. Her hysterical delivery and her worship for the NEA are terrifying:

If you can’t watch the video, here’s a transcript of the last two minutes, although it loses something without the sobbing, raging hysteria in Pringle’s performance:

I can hear Chief Seattle crying out to us, urging us to remember when you know who you are, when your mission is clear, and you burn with the inner fire of an unbreakable will, no cold can touch your heart, no deluge can dampen your purpose and, yea, you are the stars in the darkness. Your light will not be dimmed. Your purpose will drive you in our righteous fight for freedom because you know who you are. You know who you are.

You are the NEA. Our mission is clear. We will advocate for the rights of education professionals, and we will change this world for our students with that inner fire burning. We will never bend. We will never be broken because we are the NEA and we will always, always do what we must to be worthy of our students.

Thank you, NEA, for all you do every day for our babies and for our colleagues and for your states and for this country. Onward, NEA! Onward.

The NEA is no longer a traditional union formed to ensure that workers have decent wages and working conditions. It’s not even a modern teacher’s union that sidelines parents and taxpayers to take total control of classrooms. It is a leftist cult—and my rule of thumb is that my child should never be in the same room as a cultist. If you haven’t already done so, think seriously about homeschooling your children.

Alaska Peninsula Rattled By 7.2-Magnitude Quake After Volcanic Eruption

Alaska Peninsula Rattled By 7.2-Magnitude Quake After Volcanic Eruption

The United States Geological Survey recorded a magnitude 7.2 earthquake that hit off Alaska’s southern coast late Saturday. A tsunami warning was issued for nearby areas but was later canceled.

USGS said the quake struck offshore about 55 miles southwest of Sand Point, Alaska, at a depth of 13 miles around 2248 local time or about 0248 ET.

Homes violently shook during the quake.

The tsunami alert was posted for about an hour across Aleutian islands, extending from Unimak Pass to Kennedy Entrance.

Social media users reported minor flooding.

Nearby, earlier in the day, the Alaska Volcano Observatory said the Shishaldin Volcano erupted in a “significant explosion,” sending an ash cloud soaring up to 40,000 feet above sea level.

One week ago, a swarm of earthquakes preceded the eruption of a volcano on the Reykjanes peninsula in Iceland
