Huge Parallel Pro-Iran Demonstrations Take Over Sanaa & Tehran

Parallel protests were held in Tehran and Sanaa on Friday – both involving Shia populations expressing defiance at the US-Saudi-Israel axis, at a moment the region is on fire and Iran and its proxies seek to assert dominance and control over global energy transit chokepoints. All the while American bases and forces are largely in retreat, as even Pentagon internal findings confirmed just this week.

Supporters of Yemen’s Houthis were seen sporting rifles and raising them into the air during a rally on Friday in the Yemeni capital, in large part as a protests against Saudi Arabia’s accusation that the Houthis targeted Islam’s holiest site of Mecca.

Military leaders representing Ansar Allah have vehemently rejected the charge, while Saudi allies like Pakistan have issued severe condemnations of the alleged targeting. No particular evidence has as yet been publicly presented of the alleged attempt to attack Mecca.

Over in Tehran, Friday saw a reported hundreds of thousands of Iranians march in a huge rally. “Iran says 313,000 people have been mobilized in Tehran as part of a broader defense strategy, with volunteers prepared for training and possible future crises,” Al Jazeera reports of the demonstrations.

Commenting on widely released footage, DropSite News dubbed it the biggest government-organized demonstration since the US and Israel launched the war on Iran last February.

Throngs of people, many dressed in military or paramilitary uniforms, walked along side drones and weapons systems. It wasn’t long ago that some of these same streets were being bombed by US and Israeli aircraft – with Iranian citizens showing they are ready to ‘sacrifice’.

The public display is happening in tandem with a big Iranian recruitment drive. State media is touting that tens of thousands of Iranians have signed up for volunteer units.

Tehran’s Republican Guard chief, Gen. Hassan Hassanzadeh, has claimed that over 600,000 had registered to receive formal training in weapons and military tactics in the case of an American ground invasion.

This appears to be Iran’s symbolic answer to President Trump this week saying that he is at a “critical juncture” regarding the war in Iran, weighing whether to launch massive new attacks or pursue a different path to end the conflict.

He has previously indicated his belief that war will continue through the November midterm elections. But he has newly said: “I have a big decision coming up. Do I want to go in and annihilate them [the Iranian regime] or do I not? It’s a big decision. Anything could happen with me.”

And so it seems Iranian leadership is using the Friday call to action in the streets to signal Washington ‘we are ready’ should an escalated war be ordered by Trump.

State media is touting that even Iran’s Christian community was represented at the Friday marches and demonstration…

Mainstream media is unlikely to give the demonstrations, whether in Tehran or Sanaa, much coverage or attention.

But the same mainstream pundit class keeps getting the internal dynamics of Iranian society dead wrong, having often echoed the misleading claim throughout the conflict that Iran was “on the brink of collapse” – mindlessly echoing Trump admin officials’ wishful thinking and misinformation. After months of bombing and intermittent attack by the most powerful military in the world (the United States), where is the collapse?
