White House Skewers Obama & Kamala After They Crawl Out Of Holes To Attack Trump

The Trump White House fired back after both Kamala Harris and Barack Obama came out of the woodwork to bad mouth the President, effectively telling audiences ‘we told you so,’ playing off the left’s ongoing hysterical moral panic.

During a speech at Hamilton College in Clinton, New York, Obama stated “Look, I don’t think what we just witnessed in terms of economic policy and tariffs is going to be good for America, but that’s a specific policy.”

He continued, “I’m more deeply concerned with a federal government that threatens universities if they don’t give up students who are exercising their right to free speech.”

“I am more troubled by the idea that a White House can say to law firms, ‘If you represent parties that we don’t like, we’re going to pull all our business or bar you from representing people effectively,” Obama further whinged, adding “That kind of behavior is contrary to the basic compact we have as Americans.”

Obama went on to accuse Trump of attempting to “destroy” the global trading order, stating “in the last two months, we have seen a U.S. government actively try to destroy that order and discredit it.”

He further complained, “And the thinking, I gather, is that somehow, since we are the strongest, we’re going to be better off if we can just bully people into doing whatever we want and dictate the terms of trade all the time, and if we see a piece of land, be like, ‘who’s going to stop us? Greenland looks good.’”

Elsewhere in the speech, Obama stated “imagine if I had done any of this. I just want to be clear about this. Imagine if I had pulled Fox News’ credentials from the White House press corps. You’re laughing, but this is what’s happening. Imagine if I had said to law firms that were representing parties that were upset with policies my administration had initiated, that you will not be allowed into government buildings.”

He continued, “We will punish you economically for dissenting from the Affordable Care Act or the Iran deal. We will ferret out students who protest against my policies. It’s unimaginable that the same parties that are silent now would have tolerated behavior like that from me, or a whole bunch of my predecessors.”

These comments immediately prompted respondents to note that Obama did worse things during his time in office.

The cut off text reads…“The Obama administration weaponized the IRS against conservatives, spied on a Fox News journalist, sued nuns over the birth control mandate in the ACA, spied on Trump, lied to Americans about Benghazi, armed cartels resulting in the death of a Border Patrol agent, and his CIA spied on congress.“

Speaking at the Leading Women Defined Summit in California, Harris whines about “progress” being halted and claimed too many people are remaining “quiet” as the country is being subjected to “unconstitutional threats.”

“What has changed is that there is a sense of fear that has been taking hold in our country, and I understand it,” she said, adding “But we’re seeing people stay quiet. We are seeing organizations stay quiet. We are seeing those who are capitulating to clearly unconstitutional threats, and these are the things that we are witnessing each day in these last few months in our country.”

“And it understandably creates a great sense of fear. Because, you know, there were many things that we knew would happen, many things — I’m not here to say ‘I told you so,’” Harris proclaimed before bursting into her finger nails on chalkboard cackle.

The White House responded with two succinct paragraphs.

“During her time in office, Kamala Harris presided over the weaponization of our justice system against political opponents, the coercion of social media companies to censor free speech, and the wholesale destruction of our country’s economy and borders,” White House spokesman Kush Desai wrote in a statement.

“Neither she nor Barack Obama, who wrote off worker layoffs by saying ‘some of those jobs of the past are just not going to come back’, are in any position to weigh in on the merits or constitutionality of the Trump administration’s historic action to put Americans and America First,” he added.

Oh, That Influence Peddling: Times Finds Evidence Suggesting Hunter Acted As Foreign Agent

For years, some of us have written about the Biden family’s multimillion-dollar influence-peddling operation and the Justice Department’s refusal to charge Hunter Biden with being an unregistered foreign agent. Now, years later, the New York Times has found evidence suggesting that Hunter Biden was acting as a foreign agent as early as the Obama Administration, when his Dad was Vice President.

Last August, the New York Times ran a story about Hunter seeking help from the government for his client Burisma.  Ken Vogel just ran a follow-up story with damaging new details:

Hunter Biden sought assistance from the U.S. government for a potentially lucrative energy project in Italy while his father was vice president, according to newly released records and interviews.

The records, which the Biden administration had withheld for years, indicate that Hunter Biden wrote at least one letter to the U.S. ambassador to Italy in 2016 seeking assistance for the Ukrainian gas company Burisma, where he was a board member…

The State Department did not release the actual text of the letter.

That is precisely what many of us have been writing about in asking why Hunter was not charged with being an unregistered foreign agent as was the case under cases from Paul Manafort to Bob Menendez.

The Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA) covers anyone acting as “agent of a foreign principal,” including but not limited to (1) attempting to influence federal officials or the public on domestic or foreign policy or the political or public interests in favor of a foreign country; (2) collecting or disbursing money and or other things of value within the United States; or (3) representing the interests of the foreign principal before U.S. Government officials or agencies.

It is sweeping. So is the definition of what a “foreign principal” encompasses, including “a foreign government, a foreign political party, any person outside the United States (except U.S. citizens who are domiciled within the United States), and any entity organized under the laws of a foreign country or having its principal place of business in a foreign country.”

As I previously wrote,  special counsel Robert Mueller seemed to charge by the gross under the act. He hit a line of Trump associates with such allegations from Manafort to Michael Flynn to George Papadopoulos to Rick Gates. The Justice Department used FARA to conduct searches on the homes and files of former Trump counsel Rudy Giuliani, Republican counsel Victoria Toensing and others.

However, the Justice Department and Special Counsel David Weiss seemed to tie themselves into knots to avoid tripping the wire on FARA even as it discussed Hunter’s work for foreign clients.

The government also resisted FOIA requests from the Times and other media. Vogel wrote:

The request was initially filed under the Freedom of Information Act, or FOIA, in June 2021. After nearly eight months, the State Department had not released any records, and The Times sued. About 18 months later, the department moved to close the case after releasing thousands of pages of records — none of which shed light on Hunter Biden’s outreach to the U.S. government.

The Times challenged the thoroughness of the search, noting that the department had failed to produce responsive records contained in a cache of files connected to a laptop that Mr. Biden had abandoned at a Delaware repair shop. The department resumed the search and periodic productions, but had produced few documents related to Mr. Biden until the week after his father ended his re-election campaign and endorsed Vice President Harris for the Democratic nomination.

Now we have a copy of a key letter from Hunter that gives us an insight into the evidence buried for years:

The State Department last week released a letter that Hunter Biden wrote while his father was serving as vice president in which he sought assistance from the U.S. government for the Ukrainian energy company Burisma.

In the previously unpublished June 2016 letter on Burisma letterhead to the U.S. ambassador to Italy, Mr. Biden requested “support and guidance” in arranging a meeting with an Italian official to resolve regulatory hurdles to geothermal energy projects Burisma was pursuing in the Tuscany region…

The letter requested help arranging a meeting between Burisma officials and Enrico Rossi, the president of the Tuscany regional government at the time, “to introduce geothermal projects led by Burisma Group, to highlight their social and economic benefits for local communities and develop a common action plan that would lead to further development of the Tuscany Region.”

How could any Justice Department official, let alone a Special Counsel, read that letter and not see the glaring disconnect between the handling of the case involving Joe Biden’s son and others like Manafort?

The letter references a trip on which Hunter, as was his pattern, used official travel with his father to make these business connections. The letter mentions meeting a key ambassador on Air Force Two as he seeks assistance for his client.

The ambassador then sent a follow-up letter saying he knew the president of Tuscany and identified a Commerce Department official working at the US embassy to “see where our interests may overlap.”

It was another example of alleged influence peddling through his father and work for a foreign client in lobbying the government.

During this period, the Justice Department seemed to be on a hair-trigger for FARA charges. Yet, when it came to Hunter Biden, the entire department seemed composed of legal Sgt. Schultzs.

Many in the media attacked those of us who have been writing about this corruption stretching back to the Obama Administration. Many simply insisted that there was no evidence while taking no steps to find out. While the media was unrelenting in investigating Trump allegations of Russian collusion and business improprieties, it took a largely passive stance in pursuing this story.

Even the New York Times, which can be credited with pursuing this FOIA information, did comparably little with the ample evidence of corruption by the Bidens in securing millions through influence peddling.

What remains is a corruption scandal involving not only what the Bidens did but also what the Justice Department did not do over this extended period. It appears to heed the advice not of whistleblowers but politicians like former Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.) that “everybody needs to back off” the influence-peddling story.

Of course, Joe Biden ultimately broke his repeated promise not to pardon his son. What was most notable, however, was that he not only pardoned him for any crimes from human trafficking to tax evasion, but did so for a period running from Jan. 1, 2014 to Dec. 1, 2024.

This letter explains why such a sweeping, extended pardon was needed. Yet, in the end, the greatest indictment from this scandal was of the Justice Department itself.

Scott Bessent Exposes Zelensky’s Lies In Dodging U.S. Minerals Deal

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has accused Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky of repeatedly deceiving the Trump administration about the proposed critical minerals agreement with the United States.

In a candid interview with conservative journalist Tucker Carlson, Bessent alleged that Zelensky “lied to our faces three times” about signing the deal, which would provide U.S. companies with access to Ukraine’s vital strategic minerals.”

Bessent explain that Carlson that he flew to Kyiv to sign the agreement with Zelensky—but the Ukrainian leader refused. Instead, Zelensky agreed to sign the deal during a meeting with Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Munich, Germany, which never occurred. 

“He didn’t sign it there,” Bessent began. “There was a lot of back and forth.”

“The following week, they’re beginning to come to the White House,” the Treasury secretary continued. “Then he got to the Oval Office and blew up, which should have been the easiest thing to do in the world.”

“There’s a famous photo in the East Wing ballroom of everything laid out on the table to be signed—and it never got signed,” he added.

Bessent explained to Carlson that he believes the deal remains unsigned due to Zelensky receiving misguided advice from his advisors. He emphasized the contrast between the U.S. agreement and the unfavorable “loan-to-buy” arrangements that China has imposed on other countries.

“You know who doesn’t sign that deal? Someone with their hand in the till,” Bessent remarked, hinting at probable financial wrongdoing. He went on to sharply criticize Zelenskyy’s conduct, branding the Ukrainian leader a ‘vaudevillian’ for his handling of the situation.

“It’s a genuine economic partnership,’ the top Trump administration official continued. “We don’t make any money unless they make money, and you know who doesn’t like that? People with their hand in the till.’

“The Russians didn’t like the look of this deal because they thought it was actually something durable for the U.S. people and the Ukrainian people,” he added.

Bessent later told Carlson that Ukraine officials will travel to the U.S. in the coming days to work on the deal.

AOC Trounces Schumer In 2028 Senate Primary Poll

In a result that’s raising eyebrows from Washington to Tel Aviv, an early poll exploring 2028’s New York Senate race shows Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez trouncing 26-year incumbent and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer by a whopping 19 points. Ocasio-Cortez, commonly called AOC, has been coy about her 2028 intentions, but the survey surely has her salivating at the prospect of graduating to Congress’s upper chamber. 

The result may be the first real measure of how much damage Schumer sustained last month by supporting a Republican-led spending bill that averted a government shutdown. His flip from categorical rejection to grudging support triggered a large swath of the Democratic Party, with members accusing Schumer of clearing a path for DOGE cuts and Trump’s broader agenda to proceed. Paralleling the headline result, 84% of New York Democrats said Democrats in Washington are not doing enough to stand up to Trump and the MAGA movement, according to the survey of 767 likely Democratic primary voters conducted by Data for Progress, a progressive leftist think tank.

In the aftermath of Schumer’s controversial spending-bill flip, AOC aggressively led the leftist backlash, telling reporters, “I think there is a deep sense of outrage and betrayal and this is not just progressive Democrats — this is across the board, the entire party. I think it is a huge slap in the face.” 

As poorly as Schumer did in the primary scenario, the results show him lagging AOC in favorability by an even greater margin. AOC has a net favorability of +59 compared to just +26 for Schumer. On a side note, Bernie Sanders is the most popular politician among New York Democrats (+69), while former Obama Rahm Emanuel, who’s aggressively flirting with a 2028 presidential run, came in dead last (+12).  

As you might expect when pitting 35-year-old AOC vs 74-year-old Schumer, AOC dominated among the under-45 crowd, which preferred her by a 50-point margin. However, she leads Schumer by 8 points among 46-and-older voters. Among the many stripes of Democrats the survey categorized — including age, race, gender, education, and political bent — Schumer only led among self-identified moderates, but by a substantial 15 points.

AOC’s early strength must be particularly concerning to the State of Israel and its advocates within the United States, including the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC). After triggering her own backlash from fellow progressives (including a memorable movie-theater confrontation) by taking a soft-touch approach to Israel’s catastrophically-destructive war on Gaza that followed the Oct. 7 Hamas invasion of southern Israel, AOC became more aggressive, using language that Israeli government and its fellow travelers consider unacceptable. That includes daring to say the g-word in a speech on the House floor: 

“As we speak, in this moment, 1.1 million innocents in Gaza are at famine’s door. A famine that is being intentionally precipitated through the blocking of food and global humanitarian assistance by leaders in the Israeli government. If you want to know what an unfolding genocide looks like, open your eyes.”

As the odds of a “Senator Ocasio-Cortez” grow stronger, the pro-Israel lobby won’t stand idle. Whether or not Chuck Schumer pursues a sixth term, Israel’s backers will spend mightily to ensure AOC’s defeat to a reliably pro-Israel opponent. That dynamic was vividly displayed in her very own state during the 2024 New York Democratic primaries. To oust AOC’s fellow progressive “Squad” member, Rep. Jamaal Bowman — a vocal critic of Israel — AIPAC poured an astonishing $14 million into the race — helping make it the most expensive House primary contest ever. AIPAC and allied groups similarly backed a primary defeat of Missouri congresswoman and Squad member Cori Bush — that ended being the fourth-priciest House race on record. 

The new Data for Progress survey was apparently designed to generate momentum for AOC: She was the only hypothetical challenger presented to participants. She beat Schumer by a 55% to 36% margin, with 9% not sure. In addition to asking voter preference using only the candidates’ names, voters were also asked for their feelings after seeing two biographical statements about each of them, one positive and one negative. The additional context barely nudged the results. However, the verbiage describing AOC was bound to resonate more with a US left wing that’s highly inflamed and combative amid the Trump administration’s aggressive start:

  • The positive bio said “Ocasio-Cortez has been a leading progressive voice and is seen as a rare member of Congress willing to rock the boat and speak truth to power.”
  • The negative version said she “energize[s] extreme elements in her party” and has a “confrontational style.” 

Even if Data for Progress did have its thumb on the scales for AOC, it surely doesn’t fully account for the huge 19-point margin. On the other hand, we have three years to the 2028 New York Senate primary, with many game-changing developments and machinations between now and then.

Last week we explained that this particular trade war will be all about the deals that Trump announces as he pulls the country and market from the trade war abyss.

Everyone else…. starting with Vietnam, which as we profiled Thursday was slapped with some of the highest reciprocal tariffs…

… crushing countless US consumer companies who rely on cheap Vietnamese exports.

Sure enough, confirming that Trump’s “dealmaking” was about to shine, on Friday Trump posted on his Truth Social account, announced that he had a “very productive” call with the head of the Vietnamese communist party, adding that if Vietnam wants to cut their tariffs to “ZERO”, all they have to do is “make an agreement with the U.S.”…

Fast forward just one day, and we have an example of the first official capitulation by a trading counterparty as Bloomberg reports that Vietnam has offered to remove all tariffs on US imports after Donald Trump announced a 46% levy on the Southeast Asian nation, according to an April 5 letter from Vietnam’s communist party.

The offer was made by party chief To Lam to the US president in a letter that was seen by Bloomberg. In the letter, Lam requested that the US not apply any additional tariffs or fees on Vietnamese goods and asked to postpone the implementation of the tariff announced by Trump last week by at least 45 days after April 9.

The letter confirms comments made by Trump on Friday on his Truth Social network, following a call between the two leaders. Vietnam, which has increasingly become a key manufacturing and export alternative to China, was slapped with one of the highest tariff rates worldwide last Wednesday.  

Expect all the companies profiled as the biggest casualties from the Vietnam tariffs to soar, as the market realizes that for all the posturing, Trump’s tariffs were just that: a negotiating chip to minimize trade barriers against the US, which as Vietnam so aptly demonstrated, are now well on their way out.

And now we wait to see just how much the limping Vietnamese dong, which on Friday drooped to an all time low, will firm up on the news…

In addition to the news about Vietnam bending the knee, The Epoch Times’ Jacob Burg reports that Taiwan’s President Lai Ching-te on April 6 said his nation would offer zero tariffs and no retaliation as the start of negotiations with the United States while vowing to remove trade barriers.

Lai said Taiwanese companies will also increase their investments in the United States. The comments were made in response to sweeping import tariffs announced by President Donald Trump  on April 2. Taiwan has a trade surplus with America and will see a 32 percent tariff on its imports into the United States.

The new tariffs do not, however, affect semiconductors, one of Taiwan’s largest exports.

While meeting with executives from small and medium-sized companies at his residence, Lai noted that because Taiwan depends on trade, its economy may face difficulties dealing with U.S. tariffs but that their impacts could be minimized.

“Tariff negotiations can start with ‘zero tariffs’ between Taiwan and the United States, with reference to the U.S.-Canada-Mexico free trade agreement,” he said. Trump has said anything that is compliant with the U.S.-Canada-Mexico agreement will not be subject to additional tariffs.

Lai added that his Cabinet is considering what extensive agricultural, industrial, and energy purchases to make from the United States, as his defense ministry has so far offered its weapons purchase plans.

“All purchases will be actively pursued,” he said.

Additionally, non-tariff barriers are a signal for the United States to evaluate the fairness of trade, and Taiwan will proactively settle non-tariff barriers that have endured for multiple years to smoothen trade negotiations with America, Lai added.

“Geofenced Every Event”: Democrats Caught Staging Another ‘Inorganic’ Color Revolution Operation Against Trump

Far-left, billionaire-funded NGOs—closely aligned with the rudderless and imploding Democratic Party—have been waging a psychological warfare operation against the American people. Framed as “grassroots,” the party of hate and violence—evident in their “Tesla Takedown” color revolution aimed at killing Tesla to pressure Elon Musk on DOGE—has been building momentum in recent weeks to segue into anti-Trump protests this weekend. The goal is to manufacture the illusion that Trump is wildly unpopular, leveraging a vast network of dark money-funded NGOs that supply rent-a-protesters to rallies nationwide. 

Ahead of anti-Trump protests, we uncovered the Democratic Party’s NGO war machine, totaling 186 NGOs, unions, and other radical leftist groups that supported Saturday’s mass mobilization efforts of rent-a-protesters and, of course, a grassroots component of the protests (mainly old white angry liberals). 

Late Friday, MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow openly boasted about the Democratic Party’s color revolution operation, even giving airtime to Ezra Levin of the NGO Indivisible Project, who attempted to convince the audience that the anti-Musk and anti-Trump protests are organic…

Listen to this Dem warrior speak. 

…but as data analyst Tony Seruga revealed, the protest in Chicago drew only 7,500 attendees, with “92% having attended five or more Kamala Harris rallies, Antifa/BLM events, or pro-Hamas, pro-Palestinian protests.” He noted that CBS News attempted to claim “thousands” were present while organizers inflated the number to 30,000.

Here’s more about Seruga’s data:

For more insight into what data we also look at in addition to GPS location data would be demographic and psychographic data using over 6,000 different databases, i.e., like the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), Pew Research Center, market research firms like YouGov, Experian, specialized tools like ESRI’s Tapestry Segmentation, consumer surveys, social media platforms like 𝕏, Facebook, Linkedin.

Demographic data includes basic characteristics like age, gender, income, education level, occupation, marital status, family size, ethnicity, and where people live (e.g., city, state).

Psychographic data dives deeper into people’s lifestyles, values, attitudes, interests, personality traits, social class, activities, and how they make purchasing decisions. For example, it might show if someone values sustainability, enjoys outdoor activities, participates in community activism.

While demographic data is straightforward, psychographic data can reveal sensitive personal details, like beliefs even life goals.

Additionally, by cross pollinating each device with other devices regularly within close proximity to the target device we are able to build a detailed profile for each target.

We have identified these six groups.

Once again, this is based a very sophisticated algorithm that looks at the behavioral metrics for each device, including the physical 1:1 proximity to leaders and paymasters from these groups in the past.

We have also identified 11 additional groups paying for protests, demonstrations and riots, many are linked to foreign bad actors in countries funding terrorism.

Seruga’s data from the Chicago rally closely mirrors the protest in Denver a few weeks earlier, in which he pointed out: “84% of the devices present had attended 9 or more Kamala Harris rallies, antifa/blm, pro-Hamas, pro-Palestinian protests, 31% had attended over 20.”

Seruga warned the Democratic Party: “GPS—We have geofenced every event. This is not going to end well for the NGOs and non-profits below.” 

The American people need to understand that the Democratic Party has deployed color revolutions—psychological operations disguised as popular uprisings—using rent-a-protesters to manufacture artificial sentiment. It’s important to note that U.S. intelligence agencies use these same statecraft operations to topple governments overseas.

The problem here is that the Democratic Party’s color revolution operation could gain enough momentum—just like their Color Revolution 1.0: the BLM riots. As Seruga warned: “This summer there 100% will be massive riots, anarchy, looting, burning and violent attacks,” adding, “Our nation will soon be under a brutal attack by filthy, communist, scumbag, satanic, evil, traitors. Prepare! They are organizing now!” 

However, those waging the color revolution with regime change as their end goal—and who are willing to unleash chaos across the nation—now face a significant problem. We’ve already seen crazed Democrats resort to domestic terrorism by firebombing Tesla vehicles and showroom locations…

The days of taxpayer-funded color revolutions—think BLM riots—are over for now, and million-person marches may be more challenging to achieve. Yet leftist billionaires continue pouring money into these dark NGOs. 

If these color revolutions aim to sway public perception and manufacture consent for regime change, then the latest polling data from  DailyMail.com/J.L. Partners show failure: 

President Donald Trump is more popular now than before he sent the global markets into a frenzy by enacting sweeping new tariffs.

An exclusive DailyMail.com/J.L. Partners survey of over 1,000 registered voters conducted from March 31 to April 3 found that the Republican remains largely popular in the U.S.

The poll found that Trump’s approval rating rose to 53 percent, a 4-point increase over last week when it was 49 percent.

Trump’s rising approval rating is surprising given the flak the White House has received over the tariff order signed Wednesday.

It is up by 13 points since March 7 among those aged 18 to 29.

Trump also saw a six-point increase in favorability among Democrats and independents, according to the survey.

The Republican’s support among black voters skyrocketed 17 points since last week, the poll found.

When it comes to Trump’s universal 10 percent tariff on all goods coming in from other countries, more Americans support the policy than oppose it.

As the nation witnessed during the Democratic Party’s BLM riots under Trump’s first term, this psychological warfare—fueled by controlled leftist MSM narratives, emotion-driven activism, and rent-a-protester networks—is extremely dangerous and often engineered to create chaos.

There should be an investigation into whether the billionaire-funded leftist NGOs—currently attempting to stage destabilization in the U.S., similar to the BLM riots—are backed by foreign interests, including governments, intelligence agencies, or NGOs with sinister anti-American motives. This raises serious national security concerns, as such movements could escalate into widespread unrest, leading to riots, violence, economic disruption, and even civil conflict.

Trump administration Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick defended new tariffs announced Friday, noting “Today was the day of the beginning of saying, I’m sorry, you can’t just live for free off of us.”

In a CNN interview, Lutnick explained that “the largest tariff and trade barrier country in the world is China. And they don’t have inflation.”

“So these things don’t occur the way people suggest they do. This is a reordering of global trade for the benefit of America,” Lutnick continued.

He further urged, “these people have all been living in our house. They have been driving our car. They come by and visit, open our fridge and eat our food whenever they want.”

“They have taken advantage of us,” he emphasised.

“You have to pay,” Lutnick reiterated, adding “And what’s going to happen is, the United States of America will get stronger. Our economy will grow much, much faster than the rest of the world, right?”

President Trump declared Friday that the tariff policy is already working and that every country has already contacted him looking to make a better trade deal.

“Every country has called us, that’s the beauty of what we do, we’ve put ourselves in the driving seat,” Trump declared.

He added, “If we’d asked most of these countries to do us a favour, they’d have said no, now they’ll do almost anything for us… the tariffs give us great power to negotiate”.

Trump rejected the assertion that the tariffs will be damaging, saying ” We inherited a terrible economy, as you know, with a lot of problems, including the loss of manufacturing and plants closed up and down the country.”

“We’ve lost 90,000 plants since NAFTA… and about six million jobs, it’s a sick patient that went through an operation on liberation day, it’s going to be a booming country,” he further proclaimed.

Pentagon’s Yemen Operations Nearing $1 Billion Price Tag

Fresh analysis in both the NY Times and CNN have estimated that America’s Yemen operations will soon hit the $1 billion mark. Still, war-planners are admitting only ‘limited success’ in degrading and dismantling the Houthis sophisticated weapons network.

‘Operation Rough Rider’ has seen warplanes and warships in the Red Sea go through at least $200 million in launched munitions alone since March 15, the Times report says. An in total, CNN says the overall operation is “nearing $1 billion in just under three weeks, even as the attacks have had limited impact on destroying the terror group’s capabilities,” according to several US defense officials.

US military assets in the region have utilized JASSM long-range cruise missiles, JSOWs (GPS-guided glide bombs), and Tomahawk missiles – all of which are very costly, advanced munitions.

Pricey air operations are also being run out of Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean:

US defense officials announced earlier this week that B-2 bombers out of Diego Garcia — a British-administered atoll — are also being used against the Yemeni military, and an additional aircraft carrier as well as several fighter squadrons and air defense systems will soon be moved into the Central Command region.

“They’ve taken out some sites, but that hasn’t affected the Houthis’ ability to continue shooting at ships in the Red Sea or shooting down US drones,” said one of the sources, referring to Yemen’s Ansarullah resistance movement.

“Meanwhile, we are burning through readiness—munitions, fuel, deployment time.”

American taxpayers, who are ultimately the ones footing the bill, are unable to have a say in any of this given the Trump-ordered military action has not been brought before Congress.

Washington has actually been bombing Yemen off-and-on for years, spanning back to the Obama administration, without so much as a single vote in Congress. Past efforts by Libertarian-leaning Republicans to reign in the Executive’s war powers have failed.

However, CNN notes that as Pentagon resources become more and more strained, also amid the Ukraine war, this could force Congress to take up the question of funding down the line:

One of the sources said the Pentagon will likely need to request supplemental funding from Congress to continue the operation, but may not receive it — the offensive has already been criticized on both sides of the aisle, and even Vice President JD Vance said he thought the operation was “a mistake” in a Signal chat published by The Atlantic last week.

Some analysts have pointed out that the major anti-Houthi operations actually mainly benefit Israel, while others have said that Europe should shoulder more of the burden in protecting Red Sea shipping lanes, however the consensus is that European navies are relatively weak, and don’t have advanced enough technology to properly defend against Houthi missiles and drones.

There are also fears this could turn into another US quagmire in the Middle East with little to show for in terms of strategic gains or positive results. The White House is characterizing this as a blow to Iran, given the Houthis have long been Tehran’s proxies, but it’s also clear the Yemeni group acts independently.

Trump’s Tariffs Could Be A Boost To Middle East’s Struggling Economies

The Middle East’s poorer countries have been struggling with warped, barely functioning economies for decades. Jordanians and Egyptians watched Southeast Asia develop manufacturing industries that lifted millions out of poverty, whereas they withered under bloated governments, layers of red tape and an elite engaged in rent-seeking.

Donald Trump’s decision to tear up the global trading system on Wednesday with a torrent of tariffs is, therefore, being met with a mixed reaction in these countries. “We have lived through all this before. It’s not new for us,” an Egyptian paper manufacturer who wished to remain anonymous, told Middle East Eye. “You could even say we have an advantage now because everyone else just got more expensive.”

Indeed, countries like Vietnam and Cambodia were slapped with 46 percent and 49 percent tariffs, respectively. Because the Trump administration calculated its tariff rate based on the difference between how much stuff the US buys from and sells to its trading partners, cheap manufacturing powerhouses that had their acts together got hit hardest.

Countries like Jordan and Egypt have been trying to get into the game of low-skilled manufacturing for years but have been outcompeted by Southeast Asia. Although all countries will feel the sting if Trump’s tariffs spark a global recession, some sniff out an opportunity in a chaotic new world.

“The Southeast Asian tariffs are the ones that will make a difference for Egypt and the Middle East,” Hisham Fahmy, the CEO of the American Chamber of Commerce in Egypt, told Middle East Eye.

“This is absolutely a boost for Egypt’s garment industry. One of the main exporters just sent me a message saying this is good for us, but we have to see.”

Egypt was hit with just a 10 percent tariff rate, the lowest baseline introduced by the Trump administration.

‘Trump just made it easier for Egypt’

On the surface, Egypt doesn’t have much to attract industrialists.

Its economy is in a crisis, having been decimated by inflation and successive currency devaluations. The drop in the Egyptian pound’s value has made importing raw materials more costly for Egyptian manufacturers, and the country has been suffering from electricity rationing.

Egypt’s exports to the US have never been that impressive. Garments and textiles make up 51 percent of its total exports. Iron and steel come in next at barely nine percent.

But experts say that in Trump’s world, all Egypt needs to do is be cheaper than Southeast Asia in low-skilled manufacturing. The prime example is the garment industry, which is fairly mobile and requires relatively little up-front investment. 

“Trump has just made it easier for Egypt, with all our corruption and more expensive labor costs to compete with Asia,” the paper manufacturer told MEE.

Egypt’s manufacturing industry goes back to the days of Muhammad Ali Pasha, the Ottoman governor who fashioned the modern Egyptian state in the early 19th century. By WWII, Egyptian manufacturing was well established but in the hands of Greek, Italian and Armenian industrialists. When Gamal Abdel Nasser overthrew Egypt’s monarchy in 1952, he nationalized the factories and imposed trade restrictions – not unlike Trump.

Hosni Mubarak unleashed post-Soviet-style crony capitalism on Egypt. By then, its market had already been overrun with cheap imports. In sum, Egypt’s manufacturing sector is creaky and old, but it has a foundation to build on if global supply chains adjust to Trump’s tariff in the medium to longer term. 

The situation is more complicated in Jordan. Jordan’s economy keeps spinning thanks to a vast government patronage system backed by American aid, but it has some manufacturers. 

Jordan has a small garment industry that has struggled to compete with Egypt and especially Turkey. However, some manufacturers have carved out a niche for themselves exporting to the US by capitalising on Jordan’s Free Trade Agreement with the US.

Jordan and nearshoring

Jordan’s bilateral trade with the US, a small $5.4bn, is paltry from the US perspective, but for Jordan, it is a lot, Nael al-Husami, CEO of the Amman Chamber of Industry, told MEE. Jordan’s exports to the US have been growing in recent years. US goods imports from Jordan totalled $3.4bn in 2024, up 15 percent from 2023.

“For the US, Jordanian exports are meaningless, but if these tariffs continue, we will be affected. We lost our privileges of the FTA,” Husami told MEE. Jordan has benefited from exporting potash, a fertiliser, to the US amid the war in Ukraine.

One of the most prominent companies exporting to the US in Jordan is Petra Engineering Industries, a manufacturer of customised heating and cooling, or HVAC systems. MEE visited the plant in 2022 when Jordan hoped to benefit from trade tensions between the US and China.

A Jordanian executive speaking to MEE on the condition of anonymity said that even with the 20 percent tariff rate imposed on Jordan, relative to China and the European Union, Jordan will remain competitive. “Everyone is getting tariffed. Jordan’s tariff rate is not nearly as bad as other countries,” the executive said.

“The tariff is going to be a killer for Jordanian exporters who are doing tenders and have merchandise with specific profit margins locked in. But most Jordanian exporters won’t feel it because they are just selling and shipping from the factory floor. The American consumer will pay a higher price,” the executive said.

Executives in the Middle East say other countries like Morocco could also pinch new business thanks to Trump’s tariffs.

The North African country is primed to pounce as companies look for easy options to re-orient supply chains with limited investment. Morocco is already the leading car manufacturer in Africa and could snag more business from Europe and potentially Canada and Mexico. Morocco was slapped with a 10 percent tariff by Trump. 

So, as Trump’s tariffs turn the tables on the global trading system, the Middle East may be the least bad place to be for making relatively cheaper products.

The Israeli army is organizing hiking tours for civilians inside recently occupied Syrian territory during the upcoming Passover holiday, according to Israeli media reports.

The tours, coordinated by the Israeli military’s Northern Command and 210th Division alongside the “Friends on Excursions” group, are supported by the Golan Heights Settlements Council and the Israeli Nature and Parks Authority.

Participants, who must receive special permits, will be escorted by Israeli troops as they travel up to 2.5 kilometers into Syrian land, near the village of Maaraba. Tour highlights include visits to Wadi al-Ruqad (a tributary of the Yarmouk River), the Hejaz Railway Tunnel, and the Shebaa Farms – a contested strip of Lebanese territory occupied by Israel at the base of Mount Hermon.

Though registration has closed, the army said additional tours may be offered depending on the security situation. The excursions mark the first Israeli civilian presence in areas of Syria recently taken over by Israeli forces following the fall of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in December.

In recent months, Israel has intensified airstrikes on Syrian military bases and moved beyond the Golan Heights’ demilitarized buffer zone, occupying strategic areas like Mount Hermon in violation of the 1974 disengagement agreement. Initial Israeli security plans reportedly envisioned a 15-km demilitarized zone and a broader 60-km zone of influence inside Syria.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has since called for the complete demilitarization of southern Syria, declaring that Israeli troops would remain in the Golan buffer zone and Mount Hermon indefinitely to block Syrian army access south of Damascus.

Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich has openly expressed support for expanding Israel’s borders beyond Palestinian territories, hinting at ambitions for a “Greater Israel” encompassing parts of neighboring Arab countries, including as far as Damascus.

In a French documentary, Israel: Extremists in Power, Smotrich endorsed a Jewish state governed by Jewish values and smiled when asked if Israeli sovereignty should extend beyond the Jordan River.

He referenced a biblical prophecy about Jerusalem stretching “until Damascus.” While the Israeli government maintains its official goal as defeating Hezbollah, Smotrich’s comments—and settler support—raise concerns about broader expansionist intentions in Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, and beyond.
